Dr. Saman Weerasinghe , Advisor to H.E. President on International affairs, secretary of the Sri Lanka Russia Friendship Society and Former Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation participated to a solemn even which was hosted by Russian Centre in Colombo.
The main highlights of the event was the felicitation ceremony and handing over the medals and diplomas signed by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to the distinguished members of the National Preparatory Committee (NPC) of Sri Lanka for the XIX Festival of Youth and Students held in the Russian city of Sochi in 2017 under the motto "For peace, solidarity and social justice, we are fighting against imperialism - respecting our past, we are building our future!”.
Earlier in 2017 the Russian Center in Colombo hosted the launch meeting of the NPC of Sri Lanka for the XIX World Festival of Youth and Students presided over by Hon. Minister of Agriculture, Member of Parliament Mr. Duminda Dissanayake. Moreover, Colombo hosted the 3rd International Preparatory Meeting of the World Festival of Youth and Students welcoming representatives of 47 countries’ NPCs from all over the world and send a high delegation of over 200 representatives to participate in the event.
Medals and diplomas for the contribution into preparing and organizing the XIX Festival of Youth and Students in Sochi handed over by H.E. Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Sri Lanka Yuri Materiy to Hon. Niroshan Perera,(MP) State Minister of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development, Vocational Training & Skills Development and Youth Affairs. Mr. Duminda Dissanayake,(MP) National Organizer of Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Dr. Nalinda Jayathissa, (MP) Member of Central Committee of JVP, Co – president NPC Sri Lanka (National Preparation Committee ) for 19th WFYS 2017. Mr. Thamara Dhananjaya Gunarathna, Secretary for International Affairs for Communist Youth Federation, President of Sri Lanka National Union of Students. Mr. Pubudu Nuwan Samaraweera (Veteran) Former vice president of world federation democratic youth, National committee member of socialist youth union, Member of International Relations department of socialist youth union.
