The official website for the Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara was launched under the patronage of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on Saturday, 12th September 2020 at the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya. The new web site was developed based on a concept by the chairman of the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya Dayaka Sabha, Dr. Saman Weerasinghe. The mobile friendly new web site of the temple www.kelaniyatemple.lk, provides information on Buddhism, and problems faced by the Bhikku community, lobbying information to effectively involve all parties, including the government, for the continuity of Buddhist philosophy. The web site aims to provide live and recorded sessions of all the religious programs conducted at the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya allowing anyone to participate from anywhere in the world during this pandemic situation of Covid-19.
Hon. Prime Minister Rajapaksa stated during his speech that having the website launched; the Buddhist devotees, as well as devotees of other religions, worldwide would be finding their knowledge hub in the journey of seeking inner peace. After launching the website Dr. Saman Weerasinghe handed over to the Prime Minister the manuscript “Sri Kalyani Duruthu Dharma Deshana – Volume 12”.
