The president and the Government of the Russian Federation awarded the highest state award the Order Of Honour conferred on a foreign citizen to Dr. Saman Weerasinghe for his contribution to the development and strengthening of economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation with the Russian Federation. He is the first Sri Lankan citizen to receive this prestigious state award of the Russian Federation for foreign citizens.
The Order of Honour was presented to Dr. Saman Weerasinghe by the Russian Ambassador in Sri Lanka, Alexander Karchava on 12th June 2013 on the occasion of the National Day of the Russian Federation.
